Costa Rica

Jesús Silva, the president of Ineco, Carlos Villalta, the Costa Rican minister of Public Works and Transport, and Luis Baz, the general director of Acciona Ingeniería, have signed a contract for the administrative, technical, legal and environmental management of Costa Rica’s Transport Infrastructure Programme (PIT)
Ineco, together with Acciona Ingeniería, will undertake advisory work for Costa Rica in the development of the PIT. To that end, a Programme Implementation Unit will be created; this will consist in an integrated, multidisciplinary team of thirteen professionals (civil engineers, economists, environmental scientists, lawyers and administrative staff) which will act to facilitate and propel projects in order to complete the Programme before the end of 2020.
The Government of the Republic of Costa Rica is making considerable efforts to improve the country's infrastructure. The plan, which has received close to 450 million euros in investment, aims to contribute to the development of the local transport sector by improving road and port infrastructure; it seeks to improve the conditions of the transport of people and goods and to facilitate the flow of trade and Costa Rica’s economic integration into the region.
Carlos Villalta, the Costa Rican minister of Public Works and Transport, stated that: “thanks to this deal, Costa Rican infrastructure will be efficiently managed by renowned, respected, knowledgeable professionals.”
The Programme includes actions in seven road projects and three port projects, with works in renovation, reconstruction, paving, road enlargement, improvements to road safety, bridge enlargements and the construction and improvement of port facilities.
Jesús Silva, the president of Ineco, highlighted that: “our experience has been fundamental in Costa Rica’s decision to trust in Ineco for this important project, which will adapt the country’s main road and port infrastructure to meet current demand.”
The deal took place in Ineco’s new showroom. Conceived as centre for engineering interpretation, the space was designed to offer a tour of the main Spanish and international infrastructure works carried out both by Ineco and by Spanish Engineering as a whole.
The minister was able to see the areas of activity and the solutions offered by Spanish public engineering, in addition to an interactive map showing Ineco’s main projects in the world and examples and models of its most important, innovative projects.
Ineco has had a presence in Costa Rica since 2004, in important projects such as the National Transport Plan, approved in 2012, the Comprehensive Plan for the Modernisation of the Airport Network and its study on the implementation of a rail transport system in the metropolitan area of the capital, San José.
