Ineco’s General Director of Operations, María Sánchez-Palomo, has won the Award for Best Young Civil Engineer bestowed by the Madrid Division of the Spanish Association of Civil Engineers.

This honour highlights the impact that engineering has on society and recognises the contribution of Madrid’s civil engineers to innovative construction project solutions, exceptional executions of works of great social import, research on new technologies, entrepreneurial professional trajectories and international development.

With more than eleven years of experience at Ineco, María Sánchez-Palomo has directed and managed important projects such as designing the superstructure and systems for the Mecca-Medina High Speed Line; refurbishing and upgrading Walvis Bay Airport in Namibia; and coordinating the Figueras-Perpignan rail concession. She has also held the position of technical director of the Spanish Haramain Consortium and boasts extensive experience in technical legal assistance for arbitration processes related to infrastructures.

The awards ceremony, which was held at Casa América and presided over by Manuel Niño, Secretary General for Infrastructures at the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, was attended by more than 300 people. During the ceremony, the president of the Madrid Division of the Spanish Association of Civil Engineers, Miguel Angel Carrillo, noted that since the awards began ten years ago, ‘66 first and 20 runners-up prizes have been presented to recognise the ingenuity, talent and innovation of the region’s civil engineers.’
