Ineco is drawing up a contract for the provision of consultancy services for the administrative, technical, legal and environmental management of the Transport Infrastructure Programme (PIT) set in motion by the Costa Rica government. Its objective is to modernise the road and port infrastructure of the country, as well as to improve administration processes, auditing and project evaluation.

The PIT is part of the 2011-2035 National Transport Plan to promote the improvement of infrastructure in Costa Rica, and it includes designs of conservation and progressive improvement of the strategic road network to facilitate conditions of mobility of people and goods and thus facilitate trade flows and the economic integration of the country.

The Government of the Republic of Costa Rica has made considerable efforts to improve the country's infrastructure. A further step to improve this situation is the development of the PIT, which will include various strategic road and port designs, including master plans, designs and construction.

Development of Costa Rican transport

Ineco support the Costa Rican Ministry of Public Works and Transport in the implementation of projects by creating the Programme Implementation Unit. This unit will act as a project facilitator and catalyst in order to complete the programme by the end of 2020. The main purpose is for PIT to contribute to the development of the transport sector, aiming to be of benefit to the mobility conditions of people and goods, to encourage the trade flow and to facilitate the regional economic integration of Costa Rica.

The plan, which has received 450 million dollars in investment, aims to contribute to the development of the local transport sector by improving road and port infrastructure; it seeks to improve the conditions of the transport of people and goods and to facilitate the flow of trade and Costa Rica’s economic integration into the region.

The programme includes actions in various roads and ports: works of refurbishment, reconstruction, paving, road enlargement, road safety improvement, bridge enlargement or the construction and improvement of port facilities and the execution of a Master Plan for the Pacific coast.

Ineco has been present in Costa Rica since 2004 with important designs, such as the National Transport Plan, approved in 2012 or the Comprehensive Plan for the Modernisation of the Airport Network.
