Jorge Chávez International Airport, Peru’s main airport, is undergoing the largest enlargement in its history: its current area will practically double, thus enabling it to welcome more passengers every year.  It is an enlargement that will enable the airport to meet its predicted demand of 24.5 million passengers a year by 2022.

Ineco, as part of a consortium with Peruvian engineering firm Cesel, will oversee works until 2021. The planned works include, among others, building a second runway 3,500 metres in length and new taxiways, as well as expanding the aircraft parking apron, all of which are to come into service by 2021.

In the landside, a new terminal area will be built, which is forecasted to open at the same time that the new runway comes into service, along with its system of taxiways and apron, as mentioned in the previous paragraph.

The investment budgeted is USD $1,200 million.

Ineco shall report to OSITRAN (Supervisory Organization for Investment in Public Transportation Infrastructure), which would ensure the correct development of the works and compliance with the contract terms.

Experience as a reference

Ineco brings robust experience in overseeing similar projects. During the last 12 years, Aena, Spanish airport operator, has carried out enlargement and improvement works in its network of 47 airports, where Ineco has participated providing specialized consulting and engineering services. The most important actions have been conducted in the Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, Barcelona El Prat and Málaga airports, where both airfields and terminals have been extended. Outside Spain, the company is currently in charge of the Project Management of the enlargement of Kuwait’s international airport, which, like Jorge Chávez airport, will also have a second runway and a new passenger terminal, as well as a large area intended for air cargo transport.
