Transport infrastructure and means of transport themselves generate substantial economic growth and significant social development, but they also bring about an increase in toxic emissions and potential environmental damage. Within this context, Ineco bets on innovation as one of the main assets to which it dedicates the greatest efforts and resources, in order to develop the Ie(CO)Trans2 project, framed in the environmental field.

A smart method for efficient transport

Ineco's team has developed a new own methodology to help calculate both energy impact and greenhouse gas emissions, as well as to assess the economic and social influence of a transport project, so that preliminary conclusions can be drawn on the future impact resulting from possible measures and policies of the transport sector with the purpose of maximising its final profit.

Having a methodology for the overall assessment of the economic and environmental impact of measures and policies of the transport sector makes it possible to compare in advance their possible effects, such as speed limits, tolls or bus lanes.

On this account, the goal of Ie(CO)Trans2 is to draw and provide preliminary conclusions on the potential application of the measures and, in this way, to avoid environmental impact and accomplish energy sustainability.

In order to optimise these calculations, Ineco has performed a thorough and detailed job which has been completed with the development of an accurate computer application, Ie(CO)Trans2. Thanks to its implementation, the effort and analysis developed on a model city - goal of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP), drafted by INECO in 2013 - allow the work team to reduce execution times by 33%, as compared to other preliminary studies in this subject. This translates into remarkable cost savings.

Framework for action

The methodology developed by Ie(CO)Trans2 performs, before application, a classification of future actions to increase transport sustainability:

  • technological efficiency measures applied to the means of transport themselves and their fuels
  • demand redistribution and transfer measures, such as, the limitation of private car use with tolls or parking regulation
  • demand reduction measures of means of motor transport
  • operational efficiency measures derived from the implementation of advanced technologies to improve performance of the transport system

Leaders in innovation and committed to the environment

One of the company's main assets is its bet on development of innovative products to improve the quality and competitiveness of services and to carry out more efficient and sustainable projects.

Furthermore, Ineco's team takes into account the minimisation of infrastructure impact on the environment in the projects it works on, so as to protect biodiversity and reduce noise and air pollution.
