The driving force of the country
The rail network is divided into two phases and will have around 330 miles of track. Phase one will link London and Birmingham, and Phase two will connect Birmingham with Manchester, eventually linking other cities to the North.
Thus, the HS2 project will offer a considerably enhanced railway capacity and optimize the connectivity between the major urban areas of Britain making use of the most advanced and efficient technologies. Moreover, the high speed trains will be compatible with existing lines.
It will provide wider economic benefits in the form of jobs and regeneration and support property markets in areas where rail connections have been improved.
Better journeys between cities
The rail network will bring cities closer together with a commercial speed of 225 mph and the most innovative technical features such as double track and UIC width. More than half of the route established for Phase One will be through cuttings or tunnels. HS2 will redefine customer expectations for service, reliability and connectivity, with smart station designs enabling passengers to travel easily and quickly.
