Ineco has elaborated a strategic plan for Egypt’s civil aviation that includes a reorganisation of its air space.

Ineco has drawn up an air navigation plan for Egypt to cope with the country’s future air traffic which itself represents the biggest market in North Africa.

The project ‘Development of Egyptian air traffic control’, has devised a strategic plan for Egyptian civil aviation which will include a restructuring of airspace and modernisation of all the navigation systems.

In recent years, Egypt has grown at an annual rate of around 6%, and with over 77 million inhabitants, it is the most densely populated country in North Africa and its air travel market dominates the region. One of the country’s most important sources of income is tourism and this has led to a need to update and improve Egyptian airspace.

At present, Egypt has 20 airports handling nearly 200,000 flights with some 15 million passengers. Cairo is the most important airport and is the point of entry for the majority of the country’s tourists.

Optimising resources

In 2010 Ineco won the bid in an international tender procedure organised by the Egyptian Company for Airports and Air Navigation (EHCAAN) to devise a modernisation strategy for its navigation systems.

The project’s main remit was to analyse current CNS/ATM infrastructures in Egypt, propose a new air route network for its airspace, and draw up specifications for a new air traffic control system for the Cairo Control Centre.

International success

The success of our first project in Egypt was a milestone in Ineco’s international activity in North African countries, and in particular in the air industry. The excellent results obtained in this project have opened the doors to Ineco, providing the opportunity to participate in further transport development projects in the region.
