Ineco has drawn up an air navigation plan for Egypt to cope with the country’s future air traffic which itself represents the biggest market in North Africa.
The project ‘Development of Egyptian air traffic control’, has devised a strategic plan for Egyptian civil aviation which will include a restructuring of airspace and modernisation of all the navigation systems.
In recent years, Egypt has grown at an annual rate of around 6%, and with over 77 million inhabitants, it is the most densely populated country in North Africa and its air travel market dominates the region. One of the country’s most important sources of income is tourism and this has led to a need to update and improve Egyptian airspace.
At present, Egypt has 20 airports handling nearly 200,000 flights with some 15 million passengers. Cairo is the most important airport and is the point of entry for the majority of the country’s tourists.
