Ineco has cooperated with Aena on the expansion of the terminal building at Ibiza’s airport.

Ibiza Airport, only 7.5 km from the capital city of the Pitiusa Islands, constitutes Ibiza and Formentera's main communications artery. It is also characterised by its predominantly tourist-oriented traffic and the seasonal nature of demand.

The airport is located in the Ses Salinas National Park of Ibiza and Formentera and consequently its management has always focussed on maintaining the natural balance of the area.

In 2008, to meet the high passenger demand and the pronounced traffic peaks in the European summer, Aena contracted Ineco to manage extension of the terminal building, upgrading of the facilities and construction of new commercial areas. These works were to be carried out with the minimum environmental impact possible.

A suitable infrastructure for the tourist industry

A new facade was built which allows more natural light to enter the terminal building. The telescopic boarding bridges were upgraded and the lateral areas and departure lounge enlarged.

This project entailed 16,700 m2 of new building which translated into a 46% increase in the total area of the terminal.

Thanks to this extension the airport of Ibiza is currently endowed with modern, comfortable facilities in line with the expected volume of air traffic.
