Climate challenge

Climate change is an unstoppable process that affects all regions of the planet, its biodiversity and all social and economic sectors without distinction. Spain, due to its geographical situation and its economic and social characteristics, is a country highly vulnerable to climate change, the impact of which, with extreme weather conditions, is becoming increasingly evident. Transport is being greatly affected by the consequences of global warming in a causal interrelationship that is forcing a rethinking of many aspects. The most direct impacts are already occurring on infrastructure, where severe damage and losses due to extreme weather and hydrological events are beginning to reach worrying levels. It is essential to analyse the vulnerability and risk of transport infrastructure to this process in order to identify the most sensitive points, the most likely impacts and the most efficient adaptation measures to mitigate them.

For this reason, the company has been collaborating with our clients for more than ten years to minimise their impact on the planet, thanks to a multidisciplinary team of more than 20 professionals, capable of covering a wide variety of jobs. Professionals with more than 12 years of experience in the sector who have worked on projects such as the development of energy audits for Adif and also the energy efficiency implementation plan for Enaire. They have also worked on the calculation of carbon footprints for Enaire, Aena, Adif and the Port of Santander, and the calculation of pollutant emissions with programmes such as AEDT, which simulates the dispersion of pollutants according to climatic conditions, for Aena. Furthermore, at the international level, Ineco has collaborated with Rail Baltica in obtaining the climate test and we have carried out the analysis of the resilience of infrastructures of various modes of transport.

This experience is reflected in data such as the fact that the company has analysed the resilience of more than 50% of the railway network with a pioneering team and is starting to develop risk analysis for the General State Road Network. Being able to address climate change in its three areas of action (energy efficiency, mitigation and adaptation), in a holistic way and interacting in all phases, from strategy or planning, to design, construction and maintenance, allows Ineco to increase synergies within the teams and address this problem in a global manner. In short, to continue contributing both to the improvement of the future of our planet and to society.
