The growing need for technological tools to protect marine ecosystems has motivated the development of PURSUIT, one of the proposals selected in Ineco's 2025 Innovation Call. The project, driven by Jesús Lucero Ezquerro and Antonio Águila Martínez-Casariego, proposes a solution based on remote sensing via satellites and AI to monitor and manage pollution in coastal and port environments.
PURSUIT (Platform Using Remote Sensing for Uncleanliness Intermaritime Tracking) is an innovative idea that proposes a web viewer where satellite data (radar and optical), AIS positioning data (via GNSS), tidal models, and advanced algorithms with AI would be integrated to detect, classify, and track pollution in coastal infrastructures and ports. The main advantages would be: precision-efficiency, cost-effectiveness, customisation, and sustainability, which would allow the visualisation of the evolution of oily substances in the sea to reduce their environmental impact.
An innovative solution with direct application in the protection of the marine environment, aligned with Ineco's commitment to the use of space technologies (Copernicus component of the European Space Programme), for more effective and sustainable environmental management.
