Eva Pino, Manager in Transport Economics and Policy at Ineco, addressed one of the less visible aspects of the demographic challenge facing rural areas: the masculinisation of the rural population.
Creating opportunities for women to build their life projects in rural communities was at the heart of Ineco’s participation in Ezcaray Tech for Future 2026. Held in the town of Ezcaray, in La Rioja, the event brought together companies, institutions and professionals to discuss innovation and technology as tools for regional development.
Eva Pino, Manager in Transport Economics and Policy at Ineco, addressed one of the less visible aspects of the demographic challenge facing rural areas: the masculinisation of the rural population. The lack of employment opportunities in local economies where traditionally male-dominated sectors predominate is driving young women to leave, with consequences for generational renewal and the innovative capacity of these territories.
During her presentation, highlighted the role of women as a driving force behind rural development and stressed the need to create conditions that encourage them to remain in rural areas. These include more diverse employment opportunities, access to housing and essential services, improved mobility and digital connectivity, as well as support networks for female entrepreneurship and leadership.
Against this backdrop, she presented Ineco RuralTIC as a means of creating new opportunities through knowledge and digital skills, encouraging local authority representatives to join the programme.
