The AURA development team
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has recognised with the Public Service Group Achievement Award the Ineco team responsible for developing AURA, a cutting-edge technological solution aimed at climate resilience and the protection of critical infrastructures.
This intelligent tool has fused weather data from multiple sources (NASA, Copernicus, AEMET) to anticipate extreme events in advance. The system has assessed climate risks on critical infrastructures and generated operational recommendations to minimise damage and protect citizens.
NASA's Earth Science Division has highlighted the scientific rigour of the project, as well as its ability to integrate different data sources into an accessible, scalable operating system that can be adapted to different cities around the world. The solution also aligns with global sustainability and climate adaptation goals. In addition, they recognised the team's contribution to applied Earth science and its alignment with the objectives of the Earth Science Applications programme: Disasters.
As a pilot case, AURA has been implemented at the Chamartín-Clara Campoamor station (Madrid), where it has demonstrated a reduction of up to 73% in the impact of events such as DANAs or the Filomena storm, through simulations based on real data.
A multidisciplinary team with a global vision
The team that developed the AURA proposal was made up of professionals from different technical areas of Ineco:
Lucas Alaniz, expert in Smart Products, Borja Frías, from the Transport Economics and Policy management, Luis Armando, from the IT Consultancy and Cybersecurity management, Marta Torreiro, from CNS - ATM Systems Management, Rita Bañón, from Airspace Management, and Álvaro Lalín Rodríguez, from Innovation Management.
Together, they have brought their expertise in engineering, data analysis, critical systems and urban planning to transform observation into concrete decisions that improve the resilience of cities.
Spanish innovation with international impact
Ineco reinforces with this recognition its role as a reference agent in innovation applied to mobility and urban transformation. Through AURA, Spanish public engineering demonstrates its global leadership in tech solutions rooted in science, sustainability, and social commitment.
