Digital modelling enables engineers to evaluate different alternatives and adapt structural designs to the specific conditions of each project. Octavio Blanquer, a BIM specialist in civil structures and GIS specialist at Ineco’s Singular Projects Division, shared this experience at Civil Tech-Day Madrid 2026, organised by Bentley.

During his presentation, he showcased projects developed using OpenBridge Designer across a range of structure types, including railway bridges, road overpasses, underground access structures and railway canopies. These examples illustrated how digital modelling tools help integrate structures into their surroundings from the earliest design stages, taking into account gradients, intersections with other infrastructure and the clearance required for vehicle movements.

The highlight of the presentation was the modelling of two long-span viaducts featuring multiple entry and exit ramps. Their design required the cross-sections to be adapted to changes in deck width and the model to be organised according to the different construction phases. The project also included 39 piers, each with a unique design and defined to a level of detail sufficient to generate accurate project quantities.

This experience demonstrates Ineco’s ability to apply parametric design techniques to complex structures, tailoring geometry to the specific requirements of each solution. Blanquer also addressed interoperability with other digital tools and discussed opportunities for software enhancement identified during project delivery, providing practical insights based on real-world applications.
