Did you know...? Ineco Becomes Spain’s First Operator Authorized to Use Nest Drones

November 7, 2025

Ineco reinforces its leadership in innovation by becoming the first operator authorised in Spain to work with the dron-in-a-box system, known as dron-nest. Víctor Gordo and Alejandro Díez, together with other professionals from Ineco's CNS and ATM systems management, have been in charge of developing the use of this technology for the inspection of railway infrastructures.

The dron-nest system, developed with HelixNorth equipment, is already being tested at Adif's High Speed Maintenance Base in Villarrubia de Santiago (Toledo). With the installation of the 'nests' in strategic locations, the drones can take off, land, recharge and carry out inspection operations automatically, without the need for an 'in situ' pilot.

In order to obtain authorisation from the Spanish Aviation Safety Agency (AESA), an exhaustive safety study of automated operations was required. Thanks to this study, it has been demonstrated that, with drone-nesting, the efficiency of infrastructure maintenance is increased, making the process more agile, precise and safe.

The authorisation to operate with nest drones is a crucial boost to Ineco's innovative aerial mobility strategy, which collaborates in the regulatory and technical development of the use of UAS (Unmanned Aerial Systems). Initiatives such as this are a decisive step towards the implementation of new tools that help to guarantee the safety and continuity of service in the country's main infrastructures.
