ENSURE results mark a significant step forward for the deployment of the U-space ecosystem in Europe, laying the foundations for more flexible, efficient and safer airspace management.
The safe integration of drones and manned aircraft within European airspace has taken a decisive step forward thanks to the progress achieved in the European ENSURE project, developed under the SESAR 3 programme. The project recently held its final event at Indra Group headquarters, where partners presented the main results achieved in advancing towards a more digital, connected and future-ready air traffic management system.
Ineco has played a prominent role in the project, actively participating in all phases across two major work streams. On the one hand, it contributed to defining the interface and services between Air Traffic Management (ATM) and U-space, a solution designed to integrate drone operations within traditional air traffic management systems. On the other, it was involved in the development of Dynamic Airspace Reconfiguration (DAR), an innovative capability that enables airspace use to be adapted in real time according to operational needs.
The company’s contribution has spanned from the definition of operational concepts to validation activities, including trials carried out in a highly demanding real-world environment such as Málaga–Costa del Sol Airport. These tests successfully demonstrated interoperability between ATM and U-space systems, validating real-time data exchange and confirming the feasibility of integrating drone operations in complex airspace while ensuring safe coexistence with manned aviation.
The results achieved by ENSURE represent a significant step forward for the deployment of the U-space ecosystem in Europe, laying the foundations for more flexible, efficient and safer airspace management. In a context of growing drone activity, these capabilities will be key to enabling their gradual integration without compromising the safety or efficiency of conventional air operations.
Ineco’s participation in ENSURE further strengthens its position as a leading player in the development of innovative solutions for future air mobility. Drawing on its expertise in air traffic management and the U-space ecosystem, the company continues to drive forward technologies, capabilities and operational frameworks that will help shape a more sustainable, connected and resilient air transport system for the decades ahead.
