Ineco’s president awards Jon Andoni Baranda
The president of Ineco, Sergio Vázquez Torrón, has awarded the first prize in the Second Young Engineers for a Better World Competition to the VIGÍA project, an artificial intelligence system designed for early detection and response to emergencies, created by the telecommunications engineer Jon Andoni Baranda.
The competition, organised by the Spanish Institute of Engineering (IIE), seeks to recognise the work of young engineers under the age of 35 who, individually or in teams, have developed innovative solutions with a positive impact on society. The jury, in which Ineco participated through Inés Ovejero, product development manager, assessed a total of 15 finalist projects, including proposals on mobility, sustainability, health and technologies applied to emergencies.
During the award ceremony, held at the headquarters of the Spanish Engineering Institute, the president of Ineco highlighted the value of youth as "a state of mind and a temporary state", and therefore encouraged young engineers to "work with all the responsibility that youth gives, because it does not detract and we need you empowered and with ambition".
The winning VIGÍA project proposes to transform the existing urban video surveillance infrastructure - public and private - into an intelligent network capable of detecting, in real time, fires, floods, traffic accidents or structural damage.T
he winner and developer of the project stressed that his motivation stems from his personal experience and the impact of recent catastrophes in Spain, such as the DANA in Valencia or the eruption of the volcano on La Palma.
The competition is part of the IIE's initiatives to promote the professional development and social commitment of young engineers. This edition featured three main prizes, two runners-up awards, and recognition for ten finalists.
