Technological innovation is helping to advance railway asset management by harnessing data to anticipate maintenance needs, guide investment decisions and improve network reliability. This was the focus of Ineco’s participation in the 3rd Technical Conference on R&D&I in Materials and Technologies for Railway Infrastructure, held in Granada on October 14 and 15.

Mario Ferreiro, Ineco Project Manager, addressed these challenges in his presentation, “Infrastructure Construction and Efficient Asset Management”. Drawing on Spain’s experience as a global leader in railway development, he highlighted the challenge of managing one of the world’s largest high-speed rail networks. Maintaining such an extensive asset base requires not only the capacity to deliver new infrastructure, but also a comprehensive approach that considers the entire asset lifecycle. Asset management and digitalisation provide a better understanding of asset condition and performance, enabling operators to prioritise interventions and optimise maintenance, ultimately increasing network availability and reliability.

Within this context, Mario Ferreiro presented a range of solutions developed by Ineco, including the SIOS-SIMA asset management platforms, the DiGAV track inspection trolley and Drone-in-a-Box autonomous systems. These tools support the collection and effective use of data, transforming it into actionable information for decision-making.

The presentation underscored that the future of railways also depends on making better use of existing infrastructure. Applying expertise and technological innovation to the maintenance and operation of railway assets is essential to achieving a safer, more efficient and more sustainable network.
