Sergio Vázquez Torrón, president of Ineco, insisted on the necessary transition of engineering to transform a society that looks to the future.

"We need to move forward more solidly in the engineering transition [...] Evolving and sophisticating current maintenance, by introducing predictive technology (AI), in a scenario in which climate changes will require greater dedication to ensure the resilience of our infrastructures". With this statement, Sergio Vázquez Torrón, president of Ineco, insisted on the necessary transition of engineering to transform a society that looks to the future, during his speech at the 9th National Engineering Congress.

The president of Ineco took part in a round table discussion together with Ángel Contreras, president of Adif-Adif AV, Juan Pedro Fernández, Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility Roads General Director and María Dolores Pascual, director general of Water of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge.

In his speech, Sergio Vázquez Torrón also highlighted the synergies between sectors: "on the public side, there is a high level of technical training and effective leadership to move forward with large infrastructure projects, which, as you know, require decisions to be taken almost daily, in an agile and well-founded manner". He also highlighted the main challenges facing the engineering sector in our country, such as the hyper-maturity of the sector: "In addition to the obvious fields that are going to grow, such as energy or everything related to the water cycle, we can turn the maturity of the infrastructure stock in Spain into an opportunity to become a benchmark in infrastructure asset management."

Under the slogan “Ingeniería para repensar el mundo”,(Engineering to rethink the world), the the Professional Association of Civil Engineers  has once again organised the National Engineering Congress after four years without being held. For two days, Madrid will host the main players in this sector to discuss the leadership position of engineering in the face of the challenges we face as a society.
