Ineco RuralTIC uses digitalisation as a tool to support the social and economic development of small municipalities, helping residents and local businesses make the most of the opportunities offered by new technologies.
Ineco has opened the call for municipalities with fewer than 10,000 inhabitants to take part in the fifth edition of Ineco RuralTIC, the public engineering and consultancy firm's programme designed to promote the social and economic digitalisation of rural areas.
Having run continuously since its launch in 2022, Ineco RuralTIC has become a well-established initiative that brings technology and digital skills closer to small municipalities through a model based on the direct presence of company professionals within local communities.
The new edition will begin in January, when Ineco professionals, becoming digital nomads during their stay, travel to the first selected municipalities. For approximately two weeks, they will combine their usual professional responsibilities through remote working with workshops, mentoring sessions and activities aimed at residents, businesses and local organisations.
This approach enables direct engagement with the reality of each municipality and allows activities to be tailored to local needs. Before professionals arrive, Ineco works closely with local councils to identify their priorities and jointly design the programme of activities. As a result, the initiative remains flexible and evolves according to the characteristics of each locality, its residents and its economic fabric.
Registration Now Open for Municipalities
Municipalities interested in participating in Ineco RuralTIC can register until 30 October 2026 through the programme's registration platform.
The initiative is open to Spanish municipalities with fewer than 10,000 inhabitants wishing to take part in the programme.
To host the visiting professionals, local authorities must provide suitable accommodation for the volunteers during their stay, as well as venues where workshops and activities can be delivered. They must also ensure adequate digital connectivity.
Information Session to Present the Programme
To explain the key features of this fifth edition and answer questions from interested local authorities, Ineco will host an online information session on 7 October at 11:00 am.
The webinar will outline how the programme operates, the participation process, the eligibility requirements for municipalities and the experience gained throughout the previous four editions.

Digitalisation Tailored to Each Municipality
Ineco RuralTIC uses digitalisation as a tool to contribute to the social and economic development of small municipalities, helping residents and businesses make the most of the opportunities provided by new technologies.
On the social side, Ineco professionals deliver workshops and practical sessions aimed at improving digital skills among local residents, with particular attention given to older people, those who face challenges navigating digital environments and younger generations.
The programme's second pillar focuses on economic digitalisation and supporting self-employed professionals, small businesses and local enterprises. Through dedicated workshops, participants can discover and apply digital tools that help strengthen their operations, improve their online presence, open new communication and sales channels, and increase their visibility.
Five Editions Bringing Digital Skills to Rural Communities
Since its launch in 2022, Ineco RuralTIC has reached more than 130 Spanish municipalities, representing a combined population of over 290,000 people.
During this period, nearly 1,500 workshops have been delivered and more than 800 small and medium-sized enterprises have taken part in programme activities, reinforcing its economic dimension and its contribution to local business ecosystems.
The fifth edition therefore marks another step in the consolidation of a programme that combines technology, expertise and a strong local presence to ensure digitalisation responds to the specific needs of rural communities.
