"Our company offers an excellent working environment where working as a team is a pleasure"

Since joining the company as an intern in 2019, Fidel has worked within the Maintenance and Operations Deputy Directorate. As well as being a drone pilot, he is also a light aircraft pilot and has one with which he surprises his family and friends who go with him on his flights.

Name

Fidel Otero García

But... what do they call you home?

Fidel or Fidelín... although here, in Madrid, "darling", "sweetie", haha!.

What do you do at Ineco?

I am a civil engineer in the Operation and Inspection Management, within the Maintenance and Operation Deputy Directorate. Currently, I am in the department of metallic structures, where we mainly carry out inspections of metallic bridges, inspection reports, repair projects, etc. It is a very interesting job because we travel very often analysing and inspecting bridges all over Spain. I am also a pilot of the drones we use for different jobs.

When did you join the company?

I joined in October 2019 as an intern, more than four years ago...

We have been told that you are a light aircraft pilot. Can you tell us how this hobby came about?

When I was 2 or 3 years old I was given a pedal plane. I have always been interested in flying, but it wasn't until I came to Madrid to study my master's degree that I had the chance to fly first-hand with an instructor at the Casarrubios aerodrome, south of Madrid. The experience was so special that the following week I was enrolled in pilot school.

We have also been told that you already have one light aircraft and fly with it  frequently.

I actually have it shared with other partners, but that's the way it is. It seems exclusive, but it is very common in the world. When I have time and the weather allows it, I like to go to the airfield and take the plane for a ride. I like to fly with friends and family, because I enjoy watching them being surprised.

What does this hobby brings you personally and professionally?

As the question says, I took this degree as a hobby and entertainment. Thanks to this, I was able to get my drone pilot's certificate, which has opened a door for me in my field of work, as we are using this technology more and more frequently, making the work more effective and efficient.

On a personal level, every time I fly I get a lot of satisfaction and freedom. I will always remember the day I flew on my own for the first time as one of the most special day. The feeling of being at the controls of a "plane" is something that I recommend and is within everyone's reach.

What would you highlight about the company?

I would highlight several things, but the human factor is definitely one of them. I have been indeed fortunate to work with a team of people who are great professionals and friends. Our company offers an excellent working environment where working as a team is a pleasure.
