The Column of the Expert... Maria Martin

María Martín Flores is one of the pioneers in participating in Ineco RuralTIC, the programme designed by Ineco to digitalise and make the rural environment more visible, launched in November 2022 and with great success in terms of participation among our company's employees.

How do you value your experience in Ineco RuralTIC?

So far so good. I had the opportunity to share my professional experience by giving workshops to the residents and elderly people of the municipality of Ribadedeva, to get to know them and their needs, with the aim of bringing them closer to new technologies.

In addition, I was able to share the experience and learning with a colleague, and thanks to teamwork we were able to carry out all the workshops we had planned.

Ineco Rural TIC gives you the opportunity to get out of your comfort zone and be able to work in another community surrounded by nature in a rural environment, with the possibility to get to know the local culture and traditions.

What did you do during your stay in Ribadedeva?

We have been giving workshops to older people in the municipality on new technologies with the aim of bridging the digital gap in rural areas. Specifically, we give practical workshops on the use of WhatsApp and email, internet security to avoid fraud and digital administration.

In addition, we collaborated with the public school of Ribadedeva by giving two workshops on the digital footprint to the students of 3rd and 4th ESO, talks that were part of their educational project.

What encouraged you to join the programme?

I have been involved in various voluntary activities for several years. At Ineco, in particular, I have also collaborated with volunteering activities with the elderly. Ineco Rural TIC caught my attention because, in addition to collaborating in a social action, it allows you to develop your professional activity in a new environment. I chose Asturias because it is one of my favourite regions of Spain, and I have been able to take advantage of the opportunity to do some sightseeing and get to know the local culture and its neighbours.

I consider Ineco Rural TIC to be a very innovative and positive project that works to break the digital divide in rural areas, providing the opportunity to telework from different regions of the country and meeting people from whom you learn more than you can contribute.
