Ineco, in collaboration with the Fundación Círculo de Tecnologías para la Defensa y la Seguridad, held the conference "Dual technologies applied to defence and security" at the Polytechnic University of Madrid. A space for dialogue between administrations, industry and academia to analyse the growing role of civilian infrastructures and capabilities in strategic defence environments.
The event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, the Ministry for Digital Transformation, the Centre for Technological Development and Innovation, and the Spanish Space Agency, together with experts from the technology sector and universities.
During his speech, the president of Ineco, Sergio Vázquez Torrón, focused on resilience as one of the points towards which the future must look: "In the field of transport, almost everything has already been built. We now need to focus on how to improve the resilience of infrastructures and their technological systems. And that, of course, has a very direct connection with the defence field because it is about protecting us".
Throughout the day, specific examples of how civilian technologies such as artificial intelligence, advanced cybersecurity, satellite systems and the digitalisation of infrastructures can contribute key capabilities to defence missions were discussed.
The need for closer public-private collaboration was also underlined, facilitating the two-way flow of solutions between the civilian and military spheres, with a long-term vision and aligned with the country's strategic interests.
The conference served as a starting point to continue promoting a shared agenda for innovation in defence and security that combines resilience, security and technological investment based on civilian knowledge.
