Carlos Armiens, CNS-ATM Systems Manager, has presented the results of the PURSUIT project at the 6th Space Engineering Congress, organised by the Institute of Engineering of Spain. PURSUIT is an in-house solution developed by Ineco in the framework of the 2025 innovation programme, combining satellite data analysis (both radar and optical) with artificial intelligence tools and vessel position data obtained from the AIS system.

The presentation highlighted the tool’s capabilities to identify potential marine pollution incidents using imagery from the Sentinel satellites of the European Copernicus programme. PURSUIT can generate automatic alerts and link detected spills to potentially responsible vessels through the integration of AIS data. It also provides authorities with a geospatial viewer, offering an early overview of the situation and helping to reduce response times in environmental emergencies.

Results from the validation campaign, carried out in collaboration with the Maritime Authority of Huelva in April this year, were also showcased.

The use of tools such as PURSUIT by authorities is key to the early detection of such incidents, which is essential for effective management and the accurate identification and sanctioning of offenders.
