The assessment of noise from road and rail infrastructure requires consistent information and comparable results to support effective decision-making. This was the central theme of the presentation delivered by Isabel Villa, Sustainability and Territory Specialist at Ineco, during Tecniacústica.

During her presentation, Isabel Villa outlined the technical assistance work carried out by Ineco as part of the fourth phase of the Strategic Noise Maps and Action Plans for Spain’s State Road Network and Adif’s major railway corridors. The company has established common procedures and criteria to ensure consistency across the different project packages. This work ranges from harmonising input data, including traffic volumes, speeds and road surface types, to defining a single geographical database and assessing the configuration of acoustic simulation models.

The project also includes systematic reviews, partly automated, to strengthen the quality assurance of deliverables. This approach has resulted in more consistent and comparable outcomes. The lessons learned are already being incorporated at the outset of the fifth phase of the programme.

Participation in Tecniacústica provides an opportunity to share this experience with professionals from across the acoustics sector and to contribute to the exchange of knowledge on the assessment and management of transport infrastructure noise.
