Ineco and CSIC Join Forces to Accelerate Innovation in Mobility, Infrastructure and Sustainability

March 18, 2026

Ineco and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) have signed a general action protocol to promote collaboration between the two institutions in the development of research, innovation and knowledge transfer projects in strategic areas for the development of infrastructures and public services.

The agreement establishes a framework for cooperation to promote joint initiatives that contribute to progress in key areas such as sustainable and intelligent mobility, digitisation and artificial intelligence applied to infrastructures, resilience in the face of climate change and territorial and urban planning.

The president of the CSIC, Eloísa del Pino, said that "the agreement reinforces the institution's commitment to research aimed at solving real societal challenges, especially in key areas such as sustainable mobility, infrastructure resilience and ecological transition".

For his part, the president of Ineco, Sergio Vázquez Torrón, stressed that this initiative "combines two complementary capabilities: the generation of advanced knowledge and its application in real environments". "This connection allows us to bridge the gap between research and implementation and offer bolder responses to the major challenges of mobility, infrastructure resilience and ecological transition," he said.

The protocol signed aims to establish the general basis for collaboration between the two institutions and to facilitate the implementation of specific projects through future specific agreements that will define the actions, means and objectives of each initiative. This is a new step that strengthens the synergies between the two institutions, which are already working together on projects focused on supporting the digitisation of the CSIC.

Boosting innovation and applied knowledge

The planned lines of collaboration include the joint development of research and innovation projects, coordinated participation in public and private funding calls, as well as the organisation of conferences, seminars and training programmes on topics of common interest.

In addition, the agreement provides for the promotion of initiatives aimed at the transfer of scientific results, the creation of working groups and technical advice in strategic areas for the development of infrastructures and public decision-making.

This collaboration is part of Ineco's iCampus programme, aimed at promoting scientific and technical research, knowledge transfer and collaboration between the academic, business and technical spheres. iCampus currently has 12 open innovation projects underway, in collaboration with leading universities and technology centres.

A new seal that reinforces the commitment to innovation and collaboration with the scientific and technological ecosystem, promoting the development of advanced solutions that contribute to improving the planning, management and sustainability of infrastructures and public services.
