Drones are no longer a technology of the future; they have become a strategic tool in the management of critical infrastructure. With this vision in mind, the new Guide to the Use and Application of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) in the Port Environment has been developed. Promoted by Puertos del Estado, the document is designed to support the safe, coordinated and efficient adoption of drone technologies across Spanish ports.

Ineco prepared the guide for Puertos del Estado and Enaire, with contributions from SENASA, ITG and ITE. Drawing on our technical expertise and extensive experience in integrating drones into complex environments, Ineco has contributed its knowledge in an area where the company develops solutions that combine technological innovation, aviation regulation and safe operations.

The guide provides a common framework to encourage the use of unmanned aircraft throughout Spain’s state-owned port system. It addresses key areas including governance, the regulatory framework, operational management, protection against unauthorised drones, and the main applications of this technology. It also showcases use cases that are already transforming port operations, from infrastructure inspection and perimeter surveillance to environmental management and emergency response.

The guide was presented in Málaga during an event chaired by Benito Núñez, Secretary-General for Air and Maritime Transport, and Gustavo Santana, President of Puertos del Estado. Both highlighted the importance of innovation and collaboration between public authorities and the private sector in advancing the safe integration of drones within the Spanish port system. Representatives from port authorities and specialist companies from across the sector also took part in the event.

During the conference, Francisco Javier Andrés, Head of CNS-ATM Systems at Ineco, showcased some of the company’s most innovative drone projects, demonstrating how these technologies are already being used to enhance infrastructure monitoring, digitalisation and asset management in a safe and efficient manner.

Through initiatives such as this, Ineco continues to strengthen its position as a leading provider of innovative solutions for the safe integration of drones into strategic infrastructure, helping to accelerate the digital transformation of the Spanish port system.
