Ineco is progressing in the feasibility study of a rail corridor between Medellín and Bogotá, a project framed in the Master Plan for Transport and Logistics of Antioquia (PMTLA 2023-2058).
Recently, progress in the analysis of possible corridors has been presented to the Antioquia Railway Promoter to define the optimal route.
In this process, the application of an innovative tool based on artificial intelligence and machine learning, which automatically generates layout alternatives, stands out. The tool generates initial layouts under a series of technical restrictions and respecting the defined no-passage zones, such as those of special environmental protection, in order to subsequently optimise them.
Thanks to the use of artificial intelligence, it has been possible to cover a wide extension of the territory, with a challenging orography, generating a high number of alternatives that have facilitated the analysis of possible corridors in less time than with traditional routing tools.
Financed by the Fondo para la Internacionalización de la Empresa (FIEM), this project reinforces the historic collaboration between Ineco and Colombia, in which a modern railway network is being developed to transform mobility between the country's two main cities.
