The expansion of Kuwait International Airport is one of the largest airport developments currently under way anywhere in the world and a prime example of Spanish engineering expertise in delivering highly complex infrastructure projects. In its latest issue, Tramos, the magazine published by Spain’s Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, features a report on the project and the role Ineco has played in it for more than a decade.

Since 2011, Ineco has been involved in several stages of the Kuwaiti airport’s development. Its work has included the preparation of the Master Plan, programme-wide management support as Programme Management Consultant (PMC), and Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer (ORAT) services, which are essential to ensuring that infrastructure of this scale enters service safely and efficiently.

The new Terminal 2 will cover 710,000 square metres and have the capacity to handle up to 50 million passengers per year. The project also incorporates advanced energy-efficiency and sustainability solutions, including the world’s largest airport photovoltaic installation integrated into the roof of a terminal building.

The experience gained in Kuwait reflects Ineco’s extensive international track record in the airport sector. The company is currently delivering projects across Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and North America, applying its expertise in the planning, design, management and operational readiness of complex infrastructure, while drawing on decades of experience gained within Spain’s airport network.

Among its key differentiating capabilities is its ORAT methodology, which specialises in preparing major infrastructure assets for operational launch through staff training, operational testing and the planning of operational transfers. This expertise has been applied not only at major international airports but also at flagship railway stations, establishing Ineco as a recognised leader in the commissioning and operational readiness of highly complex infrastructure projects.
