Logroño’s rail integration scheme has been honoured with the Albert Serratosa City and Territory Award, presented by Fundación Caminos in its sixth edition. The prize recognises one of the most significant urban and railway projects carried out in Spain in recent decades and also acknowledges the work of the companies involved in its delivery, including Ineco.

Working alongside other partners, Ineco was responsible for drafting the basic and detailed design projects for the rail integration scheme, an initiative that enabled the railway line running through the city to be placed underground, freeing up new urban space for public use. In addition to technical design, Ineco contributed to environmental oversight and works supervision, as well as the development of information systems applied to underground construction. The company also prepared a feasibility study to extend the tunnelling to the Los Lirios area, incorporating geotechnical and hydrogeological analyses.

The project has transformed Logroño’s relationship with its railway infrastructure, removing a long-standing barrier that divided different neighbourhoods and enabling improved urban connectivity, new public spaces and green areas. Another notable feature of the scheme was the public participation process led by Logroño City Council during the planning stage. This included thematic workshops on mobility, traffic and parking, interviews with social and technical stakeholders, and the creation of a dedicated website to gather citizens’ proposals.

Montserrat Álvarez, Railway Business Director and Luis Miguel Fernández, Civil Engineering Director, collected the award, which recognises projects capable of integrating mobility, urban development and sustainability. In Logroño’s case, the jury particularly praised an initiative that combined technical complexity, urban transformation and institutional consensus to redefine one of the city’s main railway gateways.
