Madrid has hosted an informative session, organised by the Spanish Society for Technological Transformation (SETT), within the framework of the preliminary market consultation for the design and construction of the 300-millimetre Wafer Chip Innovation Centre, which will be built in the Andalusia Technology Park (PTA) in Málaga. With the aim of adapting the terms of the future tender to the real market conditions and the technical needs of the project, the SETT is opening this consultation to gather information from interested economic operators.
In this process, Ineco plays a decisive role, taking on the direction of Project Management Consulting (PMC), as well as the overall coordination and management of the project. It also contributes to the drafting of the preliminary project and the basic design, establishing the technical foundations on which the work will be developed, and accompanies the SETT in the preparation of the tender documents for the detailed design and construction of the centre.
The session, which was held at the premises of the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Function, began with a welcome to the attendees from José María García Orois, Business Development Director, who explained the importance of this initiative for developing the Spanish and European semiconductor strategy.
Subsequently, Guillermo Gómez Fontecha, technical director of the SETT, explained the work of the Spanish Society for Technological Transformation as a digital investment hub in Spain, focusing on the details of the PERTE Chip (Strategic Project for Microelectronics and Semiconductors), promoted by the Government of Spain and funded with Next Generation EU funds.
On behalf of Ineco, Javier Pérez Diestro, project director and manager in the Intermodality, Ports and Governmental Agencies Account Deputy Directorate, has presented the details of the design and construction call. While Roberto Marchán, project manager and manager of Building Projects, has outlined the general lines of the preliminary project.
In addition, the Project Director at Imec, Karel van Gils, Regional Director of Imec Spain and Stefan Martens, Project Leader of Facilities and Infrastructure at Imec, have shared their organisation's involvement in this initiative and have highlighted that the development of the ecosystem is as important as the configuration of its structure.
On the Public Sector Procurement Platform, the document "Consulta Preliminar al Mercado" and its free translation "Request for Information" can be found, in which the objective of this consultation is explained, information is provided on the design of the installation at the preliminary project level, and relevant data is required for the tender in accordance with market practices.
The Chip Innovation Centre is integrated into the Strategic Project for Microelectronics and Semiconductors (PERTE Chip), the main initiative of the Government of Spain to boost the microelectronics industry and strengthen digital connectivity. With this commitment, our country reaffirms its ability to attract cutting-edge technological investments and consolidates its goal of becoming a European benchmark in semiconductor innovation. These infrastructures will be fundamental within the national and European strategy in this field, by facilitating access to advanced manufacturing processes for research centres and companies (especially SMEs) through state-of-the-art technologies.
