Experts in the road and railway sectors have analysed the latest innovations in project design and construction supervision aimed at mitigating the acoustic impact of linear transport infrastructures during a technical workshop held at the Center for Applied Studies and Techniques in Madrid.

Ineco contributed two technical presentations. On the one hand, Adolfo Hoyos presented the Guide for the Design and Execution of Acoustic Screening Works on Roads, a document promoted by the Directorate-General for Roads that introduces new procedures to improve the quality of noise barrier systems during construction. During his presentation, he clarified some of the issues that have generated the most debate since the guide’s publication and took part in the roundtable discussion focused on regulatory development and design recommendations for noise-reduction devices on roads and railways.

On the other hand, Concepción Garcés delivered a presentation focused on acoustic studies and the definition of corrective measures in railway projects. Her contribution addressed the specific characteristics of railway noise, acoustic modeling, and the criteria used to define mitigation solutions, highlighting the need to balance acoustic effectiveness with technical complexity and the level of investment required for implementation.

Organised by the Spanish Roads Technical Association (ATC) and promoted by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, the event underscored the growing concern over noise pollution generated by roads and railways. Participants reviewed the current state of mitigation strategies, shared challenges identified during project development, and put forward recommendations aimed at improving the supervision and acceptance of noise attenuation works.
