Roundtable featuring Ineco representatives

November 13, 2025

Puertos del Estado convened a meeting in Tarragona where experts and port authority representatives exchanged insights on the benefits and challenges of using drones to enhance safety, operational efficiency, and sustainability.

With technical support from Ineco, Puertos del Estado is drafting the Guidelines for Drone Use in Port Environments, a reference document that will outline applicable regulations, operational processes, key use cases, and recommended technologies. The guide is expected to be published in the first quarter of 2026.

Wednesday’s session focused on real-world applications and best practices for integrating drones into port operations. Manuel Piñeiro, Ineco’s Air Safety Manager, participated in a panel showcasing innovative projects that leverage UAS (Unmanned Aerial Systems) to optimize processes and strengthen security in critical infrastructure. Key topics included regulatory frameworks, operational procedures, environmental monitoring, emergency support, and live technology demonstrations.

The event forms part of Puertos del Estado’s strategy to drive digitalization and innovation across Spain’s port system through Ports 4.0-funded projects, promoting automated drone operations and container transport digitalisation.
