Josep Maria Olivé, expert in Planning and Sustainable Mobility at Ineco, has analysed in Valencia the real impact of ongoing works and the future challenges facing the major Mediterranean rail corridor.

The Mediterranean Corridor is key to the future of mobility along one of the Iberian Peninsula’s principal transport axes. It must respond not only in infrastructure terms, but also in capacity, territorial balance and quality of service. This was one of the main conclusions of his address during the 4th Iberian Railway Conference held in Valencia, in the panel “Trains, the True Drivers of the Mediterranean Corridor”, alongside representatives from academia and the rail sector.

In his contribution, Olivé examined the impact the Corridor will have on passenger mobility at all levels: long-distance domestic and international services, regional routes and commuter networks. The specialist explored how the final configuration of the infrastructure will reshape mobility flows along the Mediterranean arc, raising a key question for the future of rail: whether the network will be able to absorb the full forecast demand across different regions.
