SIAM (Spain Innovative Air Mobility), the first Spanish cluster for innovative air mobility, has announced the creation of a round table on airports in Spain in which the main representatives of the administration, operators, managers, manufacturers and constructors of the sector will be present. A commitment formalised at Expodrónica 2023 during the ratification ceremony of the memorandum of understanding for the creation of this association formed by Ineco, the Instituto Tecnológico de Galicia (ITG), Expodrónica, NTT DATA and the law firm Pinsent Masons.

The future round table, which will be set up before the end of the year, aims to generate a dialogue on vertiports between the different agents involved, sharing the needs and requirements to be considered, both operational and functional, as well as fostering relations between the actors in order to gather the main conclusions.

This is the first initiative included in the framework of the future activities of the SIAM cluster and will include different workshops that will analyse the role of airports in the future of urban air mobility.

A sector full of opportunities

The president of Ineco, Sergio Vázquez Torrón, Expodrónica director, Isabel Buatas, the head of R&D of the UAS Division of ITG, Enrique Ventas, the partner responsible for transport, logistics and mobility, José Pedro Mur and Pinsent Masons partner, Miguel Nieto, have sealed this agreement which represents a boost for the new era of air mobility for passenger and cargo transport. A sector in full growth and which must define the requirements in the different fields of action in terms of operations, regulations, business models and identification of the roles of the different actors.

In this context, the SIAM cluster seeks to bring together the needs of the industry with Spanish and European governmental bodies, as well as to promote technological development through collaboration between research centres, the productive fabric, companies in the sector and public administrations of goods and passenger transport in cities, as well as the provision of infrastructure that enable the operation of autonomous vehicles in the urban environment. In this context, this initiative represents a unique opportunity that will facilitate the entry of innovation into the market through collaboration in the creation of new business models.

A new leap towards the consolidation of a more sustainable aerial urban mobility capable of proposing useful solutions to congestion in cities.
