The European Commission has recently published the third Work Plan of the European ERTMS Coordinator, the strategic document that analyses the current state of deployment of the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) within the European Union and sets out the priorities and measures required to accelerate its implementation over the coming years.

Ineco, together with its partners EY‑Parthenon and Blue Arches, has taken part in the preparation of this plan through the ERTMS Deployment Management Team (DMT), working in close collaboration with the European Commission and under the supervision of the European ERTMS Coordinator, Matthias Ruete.

This plan constitutes a key reference for the European rail sector, as it reviews the progress achieved to date, identifies the main challenges for the deployment of the system, and establishes the actions required to meet the implementation targets set within the framework of the Trans‑European Transport Network (TEN‑T), particularly with the 2030 horizon.

In addition, the presentation of the document was discussed at a workshop attended by Carolina Ajates, Manager of the Europe, Africa, Asia and Oceania Aviation Account, and Alfonso Lorenzo, ERTMS Manager.

Over a decade supporting ERTMS deployment in Europe

Since 2015, Ineco has been working with the European Commission as part of the Deployment Management Team (DMT), the group responsible for supporting and coordinating the roll‑out of ERTMS across the European rail network. The team’s objective is to ensure an efficient, synchronised and interoperable deployment of the system on the corridors of the core European network, providing technical assistance and specialised advice to Member States and monitoring the progress of projects.

With more than 25 years of experience in the development and implementation of ERTMS—both in Spain and in international projects—the company has established itself as a technical benchmark in international railway signalling.
