Since December 2020, Ineco has been part of ERJU (Europe's Rail Joint Undertaking), the largest European railway research and innovation program to date. Its objective is to offer a high-capacity integrated European railway network, eliminating barriers to interoperability and providing systemic solutions to the sector, with the aim of accelerating the development and deployment of projects and innovations.

The group of companies of the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, to which Ineco belongs, is a founding member of ERJU. Throughout 2021, Ineco worked together with ERJU to define the program, divided into emblematic projects that cover the developments related to the different parts of the railway system.

This definition led to a first call for projects, published in April 2022, which covers 50% of the total cost committed by the members. They are completely open calls, so that anyone can apply, whether or not they are a member of ERJU and they exceed a total budget of 1,200 million.

So far, consortiums have been formed among the members for six project calls. Ineco is part of five of these consortiums and has coordinated, together with Renfe, the contribution of the entire membership to one of them.

These are projects related to mobility management in a multimodal environment, digitised autonomous trains, sustainable railway systems and intelligent and integrated asset management, among others.
